Re-Work Your Money Story
Instead of Working So Hard
for Your Money

These narratives are not the truth. Yet they’ve been so deeply integrated into our families, cultures, society, etc. that we have unconsciously subscribed to them as “the way it is” or “the truth” about money, how we obtain it and how the world works.
Working hard for your money costs you a lot more than just your time, efforts and attention, and all for something that isn’t even true.
It’s not a truism that you have to work hard for money. This belief actually limits your choices and opportunities in life. When you believe making money is hard, then your brain filters for opportunities where you will have to work hard for your money. This leads to having less choices in how you make money, it limits the opportunities to the ones that are “hard,” causing you more struggle while you make your money. And this takes all the joy out of it.
You know the joy is gone when you feel like everything you do to earn a bit more, create prosperity and have a little more ease around money is an uphill battle. And you think “this is why I hate money. I need it…but it’s such a struggle to make, hard to keep and it takes up so much of my time, energy and focus.”
Depending on the Money Story that you tell yourself, it dictates how much freedom you have around money. It dictates your ability to thrive, your creativity, your prosperity, your self appreciation and your feeling worthing of having what you want. You’ve probably heard of one or more of these societal (and family) Money Story narratives:
You have to work hard to have money
Working hard means you deserve to have money
There’s not enough money to go around
You have to fight & compete for money
Money is your freedom and security
Money is the root of all problems
You can’t control the amount of money you get
Let’s look more deeply at these beliefs (Money Stories) that tend to diminish your certainty, creativity, freedom, self-appreciation and clarity in the world.
It doesn’t actually have to be hard. If you believe hard work equates to money, then you will have to work hard for your money. If working hard actually created how much money you had, then our nurses, teachers, and moms would be the 1%er’s.
Our brains are designed to predict our experiences for our safety. Therefore the RAS, part of our brain filters for evidence to support our beliefs and filters out any contradictions. So if your Money Story is “You have to work hard for money,” then you will have to work hard for your money. Your neurology will 100% support that ongoingly. Sure, there are actions to take in creating money but it doesn’t have to be hard, stressful or depleting.
1 - You have to work hard for money.
If you feel you don’t deserve to have money or good things to come to you with ease then you will subconsciously create jobs, opportunities or partnerships that are a lot of work. This happens a lot when you don’t feel worthy or deserving of good things in life.
In response to not feeling worthy people will try to augment their worth by working hard. It’s one way that we turn against ourselves for believing a story that is not the truth of who we really are.
When we don’t feel like we are enough, or worthy our subconscious will agree. Our subconscious only, ever says yes to what we say or think.
We will not allow ourselves to have more than we think we deserve both consciously and unconsciously.
So if you get a large sum of money unexpectedly, that goes beyond what your subconscious believes you deserve, then your subconscious will find a way to get rid of that money with an unexpected car expense, sporadic spending, etc.
We see this a lot with lottery winners who go broke in 2-3 years after winning the lottery and with young celebrities who skyrocket to fame and then trash their lives. Their Money Set Point (how much they believe they deserve) is much lower than what is in their bank account, so the money has to go away.
It’s a belief problem, not a spending problem.
There would be no compulsion to spend that money so quickly without hesitation if they believed they deserved it at the subconscious level. So they unconsciously have to correct it and bring their bank accounts down to a level that doesn’t set off their fight, flight or freeze alarm systems.
You know this is happening when money comes in causing you to panic, feel guilty, dread the responsibly, question you ability to handle it, worry you will lose it, etc. These are all symptoms of your Money Story about what you believe you deserve bumping up against your money. To relieve this tension you spend the money quickly, whether on an unexpected expense, frivolous fun, or Amazon packages. Either way your system is relieved of the tension and your bank account is relieved of the money.
If your Money Story wasn’t based in deserving or being worthy of such sums of money, then receiving that money wouldn’t cause the tension, anxiety and stress. Yes consciously you want more money, yet subconsciously it gets sabotaged. This is very common when we have conflicting beliefs running, especially about the money or love we deserve.
One of the problems with feeling like you need to be a worthy or a good person to deserve good things is when what you want doesn’t happen.
When you’ve done all the right things, all the good, caring and thoughtful things to be deserving, yet life/money is still a struggle….what then?
Most people turn against themselves. They think they are not smart enough, or if they were only more: capable, educated, networked, younger, prettier, driven, outspoken, softer spoken, (fill-in-the-blank)_____________ then they’d have what they desire.
This attempt at being more worthy by being the next “best version” of ourselves, is another form of turning against ourselves.
When you become the best version of you at 50, does this devalue the 40 year old version of you? Is your best self at 60 better than your best self at 52? Is this best self version more valuable than the previous version of you?
Does this mean a one-year old is more valuable, worthy and deserving b/c they can walk, when a 6 month old can only drool? No, they are both just as valuable and precious as the other versions. Yes, we will grow and change, and all versions of you are just as precious, beautiful and enough to deserve to have what you most value in life.
This turning against ourselves stems from us thinking there must be something wrong with us that we are still struggling to create what we want, when actually we are at battle with ourselves.
We are operating on top of subconscious beliefs that sabotage what we are trying to manifest, what is really important to us. And it’s not your fault - it’s how your brains works naturally. More on this later.
We are the only creature on this planet that questions our worth, then finds it lacking. All this does is create more shame, and grief while keeping us in that loop of feeling unworthy, undeserving or not enough.
2 - Working hard for money means you are deserving/worthy of it.
Money cannot add to your worth, nor can it take away from it either.
Money is an agreed upon collective hallucination of value.
And value has no limit.

This is based in a scarcity belief that there is not enough. Believing there is not enough ignites our creature neurology to be on high alert for survival. And this can result in hoarding of resources. We share this trait with many creatures on the planet; it’s hard wired into our reptilian brain located at the base of our skull. This is where our fight, flight, freeze responses get activated or put on high alert. The hard part is that this part of our brain doesn’t know reality from fiction.
It doesn’t know when you are imagining what would happen if you lost all your resources and if you really have lost all your resources. It has the same response.
3 - You have to fight & compete for money.
This can cause you to feel anxious that you are not farther along in your business, that you aren’t saving enough money, that there’s not enough time, etc because your reptilian brain is reacting to what you are imagining could happen.
And if as children you experienced scarcity of food, safety, etc at home then it’s common for you to have belief patterns that there is never enough, no matter how much you have. These belief patterns fuel the survival patterning of your reptilian brain and then add to it your imagination of all that might happen if there’s not enough and now your reptilian brain is constantly in fight, flight or freeze mode.
Being constantly in fight, flight or freeze mode stops your nervous system from resetting and getting the time to rest and repair that it needs.
This imagining causes this part of your brain to go into survival mode patterning to fight and compete for resources. This is the same part of your brain that makes watching a scary movie more so exhilarating because your reptilian brain can’t differentiate between if you are in actual danger or are just imagining being in danger. It sets off all the same alarm bells in your body.
Money is not what keeps you stuck or lets you move in life. Many times people will say “I don’t have enough money to change jobs, locations or relationships.” Money is not what keeps you in these unwanted situations. It’s your beliefs that do.
Money serves an end but is not the end in and of itself. You are your security and your freedom, not money. We all know people who have lots of money, yet they don’t allow themselves to do the things they want to in life. They are afraid they won’t have enough money if they stop working, so they never take vacations.
And we all know people who don’t seem to have much money but always seem to take trips, buy a car, enjoy themselves, etc.
Hence money is not what allows you to have the freedom to enjoy your life or the security to make a change.
When you outsource your freedom or security to Money or anyone else or situation, then you’ve given up your power to create your life. Now you have to control the situation to feel free or secure…and control doesn’t always work and it takes a lot of effort.
Yet when you know it’s you who has the Creational Authority to manifest what is most important to you, then you are free to create what you desire and you can have the security you need.
And Creational Authority is not an affirmation you say every morning for five minutes. It’s about revising the underlying, self-sabotaging beliefs at the subconscious level so you can create the life you want with ease, joy and freedom. These limiting beliefs originally had positive intended outcomes from long, long ago and now they are no longer relevant for who you are today. It’s time for to update these beliefs.
4 - Money keeps you stuck or lets you move.
5 - Money causes problems - it’s the root of all that is unholy/bad in this world.
It’s a common belief that you are selfish or greedy if you want more money. And there’s an added layer of “Spiritual Beings don’t need or should not be interested in money.” Can you hear the shame that’s layered in there?
Is wanting more health, happiness or blessings selfish?
Would you ever let someone tell you “You have enough happiness, you shouldn’t get any more”?
No! And there is nothing wrong with wanting to thrive financially.
Anywhere you go in nature you can see the flora and fauna reaching for more, without questioning their worth or deserving. Trees don’t question their ability to reach of more sunlight, take up more space and be more expansive.
Being selfish means you don’t care about others…is it possible to want good things for yourself and still love and care for others? It’s not an “either or” scenario - it is an “and both” situation.
When you have a Money Story that wanting or having more money is greedy or selfish, then you diminish parts of yourself in order to hold yourself back from being too successful or being too happy or going for what you really want or dreaming your bigger dream. And this doesn’t serve anyone… you, those you love or the wider world.
It is always US who is in charge of how much we create and allow into our lives. And if you don’t have what you want, then most likely there are subconscious beliefs putting up blocks to having what you desire.
Good news: all your sabotaging beliefs are revisable.
We all have the same ability to create what we want. The challenge happens when we get trapped in our thinking of what we deserve, our worth and question if we are enough to have it.
You can find in the most resourced countries people who are miserable, unhappy and stuck. And you can find people, in some of the poorest countries, who have made really wonderful and lovely lives for themselves with nothing.
So it’s not about money - it’s about your relationship to yourself, and knowing the truth of who you are. The truth that you are beautiful, precious, deserving and perfect just as you are.
If you have one or more of these limiting beliefs running it can feel as if Money isn’t on your side…possibly even against you.
What if this wasn’t true about Money…what if it was different?
What if money was conspiring on your behalf. What if money was your ally, your partner and you co-creator in creating more success, prosperity, and abundance for you with ease?
What if you could do this simply by changing your Money Story?
What people don’t always get is that they have multiple money stories. Some are conscious and many of their stories are unconscious…and often these stories are contradictory.
None of us has just one story about ourselves or about the world or about money. There is a menagerie of stories we tell ourselves that fuel our actions in the world.
What if these stories could be edited to serve you? What if the most un-useful ones could be revised into a story that actually supports what you most value in your life? What if these stories, both conscious and unconscious, helped to bring you the opportunities you want?
What if your Money stories supported your best beliefs about your capacity for success, your creativity, your clarity of purpose, ease of decisions, and your ability to have life-work balance?
What if your money stories were aligned with the truth of who you are and helped to manifest what you most desire in life?
Your money story is based on your deep-seated beliefs that your much younger self decided in your first several years of life. By the time we are six years old we’ve already decide how much we deserve, how worthy we are of happiness, how safe it is to express ourself, how loved we are and how much struggle we deserve.
Consciously our adult self knows we deserve a lot more than what our younger self felt we deserved. Yet that younger us is still within us trying to prove our worth one way or another.
And one way we have been socially programmed to prove our worth is through money. Couple this with the fact that your subconscious will not allow you to have more than you think you deserve, and that is where the struggle begins.
This may give you some insight into why you consciously believe you deserve ever expanding abundance, yet in reality it’s a struggle to obtain and keep your success, health or relationships.
If this is you, then there is some part of you, subconsciously, that doesn’t believe you deserve to have it easy, prosperous and joyful.
It’s these conflicting subconscious beliefs about what we deserve that cause trouble b/c they are deeply rooted into the fabric of our foundational beliefs about ourselves. What if you could revise these limiting beliefs that no longer serve you and update them to be beliefs that are incredibly useful for the abundant life you are creating today, as an adult?
6 - You don’t control the amount of money you allow yourself to create.

Doing a Money Story Edit is how you get your Money Story to work for you.

This is how you get your Money Story to conspire on your behalf to bring you opportunities for success, creativity, inspiration, freedom, ease and prosperity.
One thing to know, your brain doesn’t automatically update its belief systems as it ages. It would be great if you got an alert like with your computer when it's time to upgrade to the new OS. No, your brain just keeps running that old DOS program from the 1980’s…even when there are better, more useful belief systems available.
A Money Story Edit is a way to upgrade the programs running 24/7 in your subconscious. It allows your brain to break that loop of struggle it’s been on for years.
The one where you don’t pitch that dream client, you don’t ask for a raise, you don’t speak up, you people please, you feel guilt about spending money on yourself, you don’t allow yourself to dream big and where your uncertainty causes you to not make decisions or take actions.
Your money stories have been running since childhood creating unnecessary struggles, challenges and rollercoasters of prosperity and debt on repeat.
It's exhausting.
And there’s no shame in being here…it’s not your fault. This is how your brain works. (See my article on De-Repression for more specifics.)
The “Money Story Edit” course (5-module course you can do in 3 weeks) is about revising beliefs that aren't allowing you to have the success, creativity, ease, freedom, self-appreciation, prosperity and work-life balance. It’s about shifting beliefs that keep you up at night with worry, overwhelm, anxiety and lack of clarity.
I’m not talking about doing affirmations or changing how you consciously think - this work is about revising the underlying subconscious beliefs that are hidden but pervasive.
What if your Money Story was conspiring on your behalf? Let’s work together inside the Money Story Edit course to help your Money story conspire on your behalf.
Revising these un-useful stories allows Money to be your co-creator, your ally and your partner in creating what’s most important to you.
Allowing you to experience the benevolence of money and how it actually has the energy of blessings. Having your Money Story work for you to bring you blessings and opportunities that support what you most value, instead of you having to work hard for your money.
Money is one way the Universe wants to bless you, any other experience of money is something else that has been projected onto it - not Money’s true essence. Once those projections get removed, so much abundance, creativity and play around money becomes available.
You have choice about your beliefs about money, your worth and how easy life can be. You can quiet the noise in your head, and ease the tension in your body.
And when you have more CHOICE you have more power in creating what you value, more clarity, self-appreciation, freedom, prosperity, ease and balance.
You have the choice to say yes from inspiration, not from starvation or scarcity. So many times we say yes because we fear what we have isn’t enough or that what we do have will go away.
Or we say no because we don’t believe we are good enough or qualified enough in our experience, education or knowledge. This constricts your choices.
Our work in The Money Story Edit course helps you to create more of what’s most important to you.
As you can probably tell this is not a course about financial planning, investing or passive income streams; I’m not qualified for that. Yet you can have your subconscious “paying you” passively in the form of opportunities, creativity, heart-aligned success, prosperity, ease and certainty when your Money Stories filter for these.
This happens when that same part of your brain, the RAS, that was sorting for the “hard work,” starts sorting instead for “easy opportunities” automatically.
Your brain begins to filter out the opportunities where you have to struggle and grind out a living….and it starts to select the joyful, creative, fun opportunities on autopilot. You don’t have to exhaust yourself to find them, they show up with ease and resonate with clarity.
Together we will work on creating this for you.
My vision for every woman:
For you to author your own money story, have it working for you, actually conspiring on your behalf.
Where your subconscious beliefs about yourself, money and the world align to bring you more success, prosperity, connection, creativity, and whatever is important to you in the most delightfully surprising ways.
So if you are wanting to upgrade your Money Story to one that works for you so you can have more clarity of purpose, self appreciation, and success with more ease, joy and freedom….then I invite you to do The Money Story Edit course.
